This is the first weekend in 10 weeks where I have NO grading and NO planning. It’s a little confusing to have so much room to move in my brain.
It gets even better! I enjoyed lunch with two awesome ladies. We laughed, we shared, and we overcame the tragic discovery that our regular appetizers at our regular place have been TAKEN OFF THE MENU! At least the fries were still perfect.
Could today get better? Hard to top this, but after an early morning walking visit with my favourite gardening goddess, I braved the already blazing morning sun so I could feast on these:
Today is also a significant milestone. I finished a puzzle that I started at the beginning of May. It was a gift from my pretend niece and turned out to be much more challenging than any puzzle I’ve done so far. The pieces were smaller and the 1000 shades of green were overwhelming at the start. On numerous occasions Superstud 6000 commended my determination and praised my problem solving skills, thereby making it impossible for me to quit. As I approached the final stretch (the last 10% took me over a week) he even said that he might be more proud of me for this than for completing my M.Ed. (To be honest, this might have been harder!) Nevertheless, today was the day I fit the last 10 pieces – and even that required some corrections and rearranging).
Further evidence of my determination (or maybe it’s just a longing to escape any reflection on the past year, but I’ve also listened to 50% of a 55 hour audio book in ONE WEEK. In my defense, SS6000 was away last weekend so I was relieved of social expectations.
How does one carry on after a day of such happiness? By escaping the heat wave. Loving SS6000’s decision to get a/c and hoping our quick fix in April will get us through the summer without shelling out $6000. (Also wondering if I should be auctioning off hour long blocks of time in our basement to raise money for the impending replace or repair bill.)
And that’s where I’m at today. These moments of happiness don’t compare to the flood of social media posts about the first wave of friend’s babies who are graduating (feeling old!), but a blissful Saturday is worth recording for posterity.
Looking forward, perhaps this summer will be the one where I finally write my best-selling memoir. Who am I kidding… I can’t even post a blog more than once a month, though perhaps my determination will extend beyond puzzles and 55 hour audio books.
Yay congrats on finally finishing that puzzle! I promise to never buy you puzzles again!
Dear Pretend Niece,
Thank you for your comment and congratulation. The puzzle was an excellent gift, perhaps more so thanks to the challenge. I encourage you to keep buying me puzzles from thrift stores. I am going to start the second of the four puzzles in that box today. 😊
