School’s OUT for Summer.

Within minutes of arriving home from work today, I sat down to start a new book. However, it tuns out that my brain doesn’t slow down that quickly. Opton 2: sangria and writing.(lol…yes, the sangria was part of Option 1 too!)

Today I was pleased to realize that, after a year of developing my online teaching skills, the least stressful part of my day was talking to 45 people in a Google Meet. Should my passion for teaching dry up, it’s nice to know that my skills as a talk show host might serve me well. At least until I can write my best-selling teacher guide: Love It, but Don’t Stress About It. (still in the research stage).

I mistakenly thought out loud that our past two Heat Days off might have made the end of the school year anti-climactic. SS6000 said I was “overthinking it.” Uh, yes, that’s what I do.

In fact, it’s not cleaning my classroom and finishing the marking that makes the year feel DONE (and considering the 16 months it has been, I walked out of my room on Friday hoping to not return); rather, it’s the goodbyes to departing staff members, the smiles and celebratory “HAGS” (but still no hugs) from colleagues.

And of course, knowing that (other than a tee time, my second vaccine in July and my hair appointment the week before school starts) I don’t really need to know the time of day, let alone the day of the week for two months.

Until then,
Teachers… if you need advice on how to do pretty much nothing for two months, let me know. Enjoying it to the fullest doesn’t mean big plans and accomplishments.

Enjoying time off with our dogs and our new Samsung phones

Parents… I learned this year that even if it seems like they aren’t listening, they are. So keep talking and asking questions. Maybe just send them a Google form check in every Monday. Question one…how are you? Answer with an emoji, meme, or gif.

Non-teachers.. Summer break IS a wonderful part of the job. it’s OK to hate us a little right now. Especially when I start posting pictures like this…

Golfing in a heat wave on Tuesday morning…cooler than the classroom!
