It’s a blog!

Congratulations! You’re reading my first blog post on my very own website.

Naming this website has been a journey, but now that wedelwhite.com has been purchased, I’m living out my highschool dream. Back then, I thought I’d own a company and see my name in lights atop a building, but getting there with a teaching degree has remained an unsolved mystery. Until today.

After nine months of asking “What will I name the blog”, I entered the next stage of doubt: what will THE FIRST POST be about? In theory, this shouldn’t be hard. I’ve been posting regularly on Facebook for over a decade, and before that blogging as “bellinibellini” –perhaps you can infer why I spent almost a year deciding what to call this thing. But it is hard! And the longer I wait, the more I expect of this thing I’ve created. This post will sit here alone until something better joins it. Someday hence, my devoted fans will have to scour the archives to see the humble conception of my blog, but right now, it all feels a little… naked.

My original self-imposed FIRST POST deadline was November 1, but that blew by without consequence (hmmm… idea for future post on the etymological roots of the word archaic word ‘deadline’ and it’s present usage meaning something more like “get it done when you can but no pressure”). I will forgive my lapse in discipline with the excuse that teaching in 2020 has left me with very little creativity to spare. Not to mention I’m a life long procrastinator. Even now, I should be marking essays I collected two weeks ago. But in this particular moment in time, mid-day on November 30, I’m compelled by the fear of being even MORE late, and the greater fear of failing my 2020 New Years resolution entirely, so I’m going to just do it.

[insert drumroll and trumpet fanfare].

“Today I’m living life on the edge. For lunch I ate expired yogurt and 8 day old leftovers. And just in case that kills me, I’m publishing this post while I can.”

  1. So excited you have started a blog. I always love reading your fb posts. The pressure is now on to keep us entertained.

  2. Welcome to the world of blogging. I started mine in 2008 when I retired and still enjoy it except when the program changes, and then a little frustration.
Your choice of the poem “Leisure” is a favourite of mine.
    Happy Blogging!
